“He Won't Come”—Kgalema Motlanthe Reveals Putin's Impact on South Africa

 


The government of South Africa is not attempting to have Vladimir Putin imprisoned, according to former president Kgalema Motlanthe. He was sceptical that Russian President Vladimir Putin would make a trip to South Africa in light of the ongoing issues. South Africans, according to ex-ANC president Thabo Mbeki, should not get themselves entangled in political disputes right now. As a signatory to the Rome Statute, South Africa, he claimed, would throw the Russian leader in prison if he showed up for the August BRICS conference. However, he is well aware that Putin will not depart. His remarks have gone viral online, and many have cautioned him to be careful with his words now that he is not president. They urged him to delegate such sensitive matters to the existing president, Cyril Ramaphosa. A Twitter user expressed concern that Kgalema Motlanthe's remarks could spark community conflict.
